A Manhasset man was arrested today after allegedly robbing an East Main Street convenience store early this morning, according to Riverhead Police.

Riverhead Police said it received a 911 call at around 6:06 a.m. reporting a robbery in progress at Riverhead Stationery on East Main Street. A patrol unit interviewed the victim of the crime and it was determined that a man entered the store, threatened an employee with a knife and removed cigarettes without paying, police said.

Riverhead Police obtained a description of the subject, patrolled the local area and arrested a suspect near the Riverhead Long Island Rail Road station, police said.

Mandeep Singh, 29, of Manhasset was arrested and charged with one count of first degree robbery, a class B felony, police said. He was processed and held for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at 631-727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
