Riverhead Town Police with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Office today arrested a Riverhead man who allegedly assaulted a security guard while a patient at Peconic Bay Medical Center in July.

3. Riverhead Town Police report eight arrests during Labor Day weekend Stop-DWI enforcement.
One of the arrests followed a motor vehicle crash, police said. Five others were made at sobriety checkpoints set up at three locations during the weekend.Two more were made during patrols.

4. Riverhead man, 27, dies in Osborn Avenue crash Saturday morning.
Police have identified the person who died in a single-car crash on Osborn Avenue early this morning as Derek J. Cruz, 27, of Riverhead.

5. Motorcyclist seriously injured in crash with truck on Rt. 25 in Calverton Thursday: cops.
A man driving a motorcycle was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when he rear-ended a truck on Middle Country Road in Calverton, according to Riverhead Town Police.

6. Residents complain about ambulance billing by Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance.
Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance is catching flak from residents upset about receiving bills for ambulance services. But ambulance district residents are being advised not to pay them.

7. Riverhead NJROTC program starts school year without certified instructors, as district seeks to fill two vacancies following resignations.
The program will continue with two temporary replacements working under the NJROTC area manager, a U.S. Navy spokesperson said. Riverhead's vacancies are among more than 200 current openings across the country.

8. Site of massive mulch fire last week lacked permits, under investigation by State DEC.
The site operator, Driftwood Family Farms, has no DEC permit or registration for a mulch processing facility at the 42-acre Calverton site the DEC confirmed this week.

9. Riverhead OKs agreement with Suffolk County Water Authority to serve Manorville area.
Riverhead Town will enter into an agreement with the Suffolk County Water Authority to have the authority provide public water to an area of Manorville the town water district has been unable to serve.

10. Proposed agreement for ice rink at Calverton town park not yet ready for prime time, officials say.
The Riverhead Town Board will likely move to table a resolution on today's agenda that would authorize an agreement with Peconic Hockey Foundation to bring an NHL-sized ice rink to Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton.

11. We all know the game. We must take a stand now, or the place we love will soon be gone.
Opinion: We are at the thin end of the wedge here on the East End and if we don’t make an unprecedented stand to protect the resources and character that define our region, it will be gone in a decade.
