A Riverhead Police K-9 officer located and arrested a suspect they said broke into a parked vehicle to steal bags within the vehicle last night.

The man charged by Riverhead Town Police with burglarizing Lowe’s Home Improvement Center on Route 58 Thanksgiving night has been indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury on felony burglary and grand larceny charges.

Thanks to the intervention of a Good Samaritan and the keen eye of a Riverhead Police K9 officer, police arrested two teens they said beat and robbed a 35-year-old man at the intersection of West Main Street and Griffing Avenue late last night.

Police said the man who caused a three-car crash on Pulaski Street that injured four people yesterday was impaired by drugs and in possession of a 40-caliber handgun and two loaded magazines. He left the scene on foot, followed by responding officers, and was arrested on weapons and DWAI charges.

The male victim told officers that a woman had removed his wallet at the Stop and Go Mini Mart, 55 West Main St. After realizing his wallet was removed, he followed the suspect to the Flanders Road area and identified her to responding patrol units and detectives.

Two employees at the Sports Authority store in Riverhead have been arrested on grand larceny charges, according to Riverhead Town Police.
