Suffolk County is working on a $1.2 million shoreline stabilization project in the hope of stopping the severe erosion of the point, an ancient Native American burial ground.

It was a common thing for farmers in the area to find and collect Native American artifacts, says Duane Lewin of Aquebogue, which was settled thousands of years before the Europeans arrived.
