Riverhead’s ‘Hometown Heroes’ banners cleaned and ready for display, thanks to NJROTC
Riverhead’s Hometown Heroes banners are clean and ready to be installed along Main Street in time for Memorial Day, thanks to the efforts of the Riverhead NJROTC. The cadets cleaned the 110 banners featuring the names and photos of local residents who served in the U.S. military.

The Riverhead NJROTC unit started off the new year with vacancies in both its instructor positions, but the program. But despite the initial deficit, the program remained strong thanks to two ROTC Instructors hired as leave replacements, Darien Riley and Zachary Morales — and the cadets themselves.

Kellia, a commanding officer of the Riverhead High School NJROTC, was accepted to both the Naval Academy and West Point. She has opted to enroll at USNA and will report on June 25 to begin her summer training.

“I knew I wanted Colonel to swear me in as soon as I joined the program,” said Gallo, who graduated from Riverhead High School in 2012. “He has been there for me the entire time and he is basically the reason I am the half-decent leader I am today.”
