Food and retail shops will become — technically — the main attractions at the Long Island Aquarium, where the tanks and exhibits will be offered as something for members and paying guests to enjoy on their way to the aquarium's outdoor dining areas and outdoor retail shops.

L.I. Aquarium receives accreditation by international marine mammals group

The international Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums has granted accreditation to the L.I. Aquarium, which has been found to meet standards covering a dozen different areas, such as animal husbandry, training, water and environmental quality, education, scientific research, breeding and transportation.

Owners of Riverhead aquarium and hotel tell Riverhead IDA the aquarium would close without further tax breaks. They seek a 10-year extension of tax abatement, which sunsets in four years, and also more tax breaks on a new 'boutique' hotel they hope to build across the street from their complex.
