The Riverhead Police dive team and a fire department marine unit rescued four people and a dog on in a small boat on the L.I. Sound yesterday.

The body of Raistlin Ruther, 18, was recovered from the water in Hampton Bays last night about an hour after his kayak was found off the shore of Meschutt Beach in Hampton Bays. He launched his kayak off West Street in South Jamesport around 8 a.m., Riverhead Police said.

A report of a possible missing paraglider triggered an overnight search of the Long Island Sound off the coast of Southold and Riverhead towns.
