Riverhead Supervisor Yvette Aguiar is proposing a nearly $3 million spending increase, or 4.9%, in the three town-wide funds in 2023, requiring the town to pierce the 2% tax levy cap imposed by state law.

The Riverhead Town Board is expected to choose the firm that will finish the update to the comprehensive plan as soon as next week. The Town Board heard from its two finalists, H2M and BFJ, during a work session on Thursday

The joint master developers of the long anticipated revitalization project near the blighted Long Island Rail Road station area in Riverhead presented their financial and development qualifications last night in pursuit of an agreement to develop two multimillion dollar mixed-use buildings on municipal properties.

The Riverhead Town Board will move to grant board members the ability to participate virtually during public meetings if they aren’t physically available to attend in person. 

The Town Board set upcoming public hearings on extending the commercial solar moratorium for another year, proposed rules for marijuana retail shops and lounges in the town and more.

Town officials want to reduce parking time limits on Main Street from two hours to one hour to increase the “flow” of the downtown area. The Town Board last week scheduled an Oct. 4 public hearing on an amendment to parking rules downtown.

Town-designated master developers RXR/Georgica Green Ventures will be the subject of a qualified and eligible sponsor hearing on Sept.27 if the Town Board authorizes the hearing at a special meeting Tuesday morning.

Riverhead planners have proposed an amendment to the town’s transfer of development rights code that would create a major new receiving area for development rights transferred from agricultural land in the town.

The Riverhead Town Board will likely move to table a resolution on today's agenda that would authorize an agreement with Peconic Hockey Foundation to bring an NHL-sized ice rink to Veterans Memorial Park in Calverton.
