Four new police officers were sworn in for active duty Tuesday, from left: Matthew Staker, Logan Frati, Joseph Trivelli and Katerina Hatzinikolaou. The town board appointed six additional recruits, five of whom are headed to the police academy. The sixth is in the military.

A Jeep got stuck in the sand on Reeves Beach Sunday afternoon and then caught fire, becoming fully engulfed. No one was injured in the incident. The operator, who had a 4x4 permit, was issued a summons for driving on the beach before 6 p.m.
