Supervisor Sean Walter said today the Calverton Manor stipulation of settlement reviewed by the Planning Board last week is not what he thought it was.
The stipulation submitted by the town’s outside counsel, Walter said, is “the same one I rejected two years ago.” He said he “tore it up” when he reviewed it then and wouldn’t consider it now.
“What is the town gaining from this?”
The supervisor said he thought there was “some semblance of an agreement” when he spoke to a reporter on Friday, but when he read the document this weekend, he concluded that wasn’t the case.
“I’m not having big box stores come down off Route 58,” the supervisor said. “I’d rather litigate than deal with this.”
Walter said he was “willing to work with” the developer to settle the litigation, but not by
reinstating the pre-master plan Business CR zoning.
“There’s no way you can put 100,000 square feet, including 40 apartments, on 40 acres,” Walter said.
