Traffic Lights Out

Intersections without functioning traffic lights are to be treated as a four-way stop, as per New York State law. Do not go through the intersection without stopping! Stop and look before going through, and most importantly drive carefully.

Mass Transit

The LIRR has restored hourly weekly service to the Port Washington, Ronkonkoma, Babylon and Huntington branches to Penn Station. For more information, see the MTA website.

Suffolk County Transit Bus Lines is running as close to schedule as possible. Service will be suspended on all Suffolk County bus lines after 6 p.m. today, Saturday, for safety considerations. Call 631-852-5200 for information on detours and delays.

Cross Sound Ferry – All departures running as scheduled.

Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry – All departures running as scheduled.

Ice

Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco is distributing free ice to county residents today, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in Riverhead and at the minimum security facility in Yaphank. Click here for more information.

Garbage 

Riverhead Town’s municipal garbage carter will begin picking up storm debris today and tomorrow. Separate storm-related yard waste from loose leaves for curbside pick-up by the highway department. If storm-related yard waste is mixed with loose leaves, it will NOT be picked up.

Municipal garbage collection will continue pickup on its regular schedule.

Riverhead’s yard waste facility on Youngs Avenue in Calverton will maintain its normal weekend schedule this weekend: 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The site will accept vegetative debris from all residents and commercial landscapers free of charge for the next few days.

Shelters 

Red Cross Shelter and Riverhead High School is closed.
Red Cross Shelter at Eastport-South Manor is still open.
Warming center – located at the Senior and Human Resources Center on Shade Tree Lane in Aquebogue, open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Utilities

Riverhead Water District has not had any water supply problems. Water in the Riverhead Water District is completely safe to drink. Residents with private wells whose wellheads have been submerged by flood waters are advised not to use their wells for any purpose. Use bottled water and get your water tested by a certified commercial laboratory.

Widespread power outages across Riverhead and Long Island continue as LIPA brings in crews from across the nation to help with restoration effort.
