The National Weather Service has issued wind advisory for Suffolk County and southeast Connecticut and a gale warning for eastern Long Island Sound.
Strong southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of up to 50 mph will develop before sunrise today and peak this morning.
The wind advisory remains in effect until 1 p.m. and the gale warning remains in effect through the afternoon.
Minor property damage and difficult driving conditions are possible, the weather service said. Strongest winds are expected in exposed and elevated areas and close to south facing shorelines.
On the Sound, seas of 4 to 7 feet will be accompanied by light freezing spray. Snow showers likely this morning with visibility of 1 nautical mile or less.
