Bridgehampton National Bank’s (BNB) 5th Annual Holiday Apple Campaign began on November 1 with the hope of increasing donations this year to meet the needs of a growing number of food pantries across Long Island.
In 2015, BNB distributed nearly $30,000 and the program has raised well over $100,000 to date.
The Apple program began with a conversation initiated by the East Hampton Food Pantry several years ago. The “apple” was a creative means of recognizing donations. At that time, BNB had 20 branches and wanted to roll out the program bank-wide. The program has become an annual holiday tradition with customers and employees enthusiastically participating throughout BNB’s now forty branch locations.
In addition to the financial gifts, the BNB staff is collecting non-perishable foods. Each of the bank’s branches is a collection site for both funds and food. Staff, customers and non-customers are invited to stop in to any location and make a donation. With a $5 donation, the donor receives a BNB lunch bag, while supplies last. The program runs through the month of January. The collected food is distributed to local food pantries.
“Helping those people in our communities who struggle even to put food on their table is a project we feel very strongly about,” said Kevin M. O’Connor, president and CEO of BNB.
BNB provides commercial banking across Long Island and into New York City.
