There’s no place like home for the holidays, but sometimes getting there can be a little tricky. Planning on traveling this Thanksgiving? Here’s what you need to know.
Weather
The Thanksgiving forecast this year is something to be grateful for. Unlike last years’ early snowfall that made travel difficult, travelers who choose to get a jump on their holiday trip by leaving tonight will find just a few clouds in the skies with temperatures in the upper 30s.
Thanksgiving Day will be a grey one, with cloud cover expected to hang overhead all day long and into the night. There will be a slight chance of a drizzle around noon and again in the evening. Temperatures will be in the mid-fifties throughout the day and will drop to the 40s at night.
Friday will get a little sunnier as the day goes on. There is a slight chance of rain Friday night into Saturday morning. Friday will have a high of 60 degrees.
Public transportation
Suffolk County Transit buses will not operate on Thanksgiving Day. Long Island Railroad service to the Riverhead station will continue as usual, with a train leaving Penn Station at 2:12 p.m. and arriving in Riverhead at 4:22 p.m., just in time for Thanksgiving dinner.
