Peconic Landing is seeking entries for its award-winning Art Without Barriers sculpture garden series with an open call to artists. The deadline for submissions has been extended to March 1.
Through Art Without Barriers, now in its seventh year, Peconic Landing has established the area’s only accessible sculpture garden featuring interactive technology used as art therapy for the hearing and visually impaired.
For its next installation, Peconic Landing is seeking artists interested in touching the lives of those living with memory disorders through an original sculpture. Expression through art is a powerful tool that can help individuals living with memory disorder reconnect with themselves through innovative means.
The original piece will become the centerpiece of the “Discovery Garden” in its new Memory Care Center, slated to open in spring 2016. It will become a garden destination designed to hold a patient’s attention while giving them a sense of purpose and “bringing them back” to a place of comfort, if even just for a brief period.
