Five town roads are closed for the night due to snow blowing onto the roadways from farm fields and creating icy conditions, Riverhad Highway Superintendent George Woodson.
Closed to traffic are:
Roanoke Avenue between Reeves and Sound avenues;
Horton Avenue between Reeves and Sound avenues;
Twomey Avenue between Youngs and Sound avenues;
Edwards Avenue between Riley and Village Green;
Hulse Landing Road between 25A and Sound Avenue.
The highway department put up barricades, but people who live on those roads will still be able to pass.
“We don’t want people driving through and getting stuck,” Woodson said. “Motorists should take alternate routes.”
Snow blowing off open fields was affecting numerous roads all across the North Fork today, including Route 25.
With high winds tonight, the situation is bound to worsen, Woodson said.
“If you must travel, please use extra caution, because these areas will ice up,” he said.
