Police said Michael K. Winters, 45, was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he crashed his 2014 Dodge Pickup truck into a utility pole on route 25 in Calverton yesterday morning at about 10 a.m. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Both Winters and the child passenger were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where the child was checked for injuries and released to the custody of family members, according to police.
Winters was arrested on charges of DWI drugs and DWI alcohol, as well as a felony under Leandra’s Law for DWI with a minor under age 15 in the vehicle and endangering the welfare of a child, according to the report.
