Riverhead Raceway is planning a grand opening celebration Saturday, May 7 with a fireworks show and feature racing, unveiling months of extensive renovations to the public for the first time.

The raceway has undergone a “rebirth” since owners Ed and Connie Partridge purchased the track last August, according to an announcement from the raceway. In addition to a head-to-toe makeover of all of the raceway’s buildings, spectators will be greeted with a “virtually new race track,” the announcement boasted.

Other additions to the 66-year-old raceway include an all-new beer garden on the third turn midway, which will be open Saturday prior to the races, and a new and improved lighting system. The food and drink menu at the raceway’s three refreshment stands has gotten a makeover as well.

Live music will be available for two hours before the official start of the program Saturday.

The event will conclude with a fireworks show. “The night sky will light up with another spectacular fireworks show for everyone to enjoy and celebrate the rebirth of the 66-year-old Riverhead Raceway,” the announcement said.

General admission gates will open at 4 p.m. with live music at the beer garden starting at 4:30 p.m. Feature racing will begin at 6:30 p.m.
