A spirited crowd of more than 100 people marched up Main Street yesterday singing, dancing, shouting “Riverhead para Cristo” (“Riverhead for Christ”) and stopping to pray along the way, answering the call of the Shofar, the ceremonial ram’s horn trumpet of ancient Israel.
The sixth annual Riverhead caminata (“long walk”) started at McDermott Avenue and proceeded slowly west to 400 West Main St., the home of Iglesia Pentecostes Familia de Dios, which organizes and hosts the event. Following the caminata, participants assembled in the parking lot behind the building for more songs, prayers and a picnic lunch.
A group of uniformed volunteer law enforcement chaplains joined the march this year, walking with families and parishioners at Iglesia Pentecostes Familia de Dios.
