Two people were airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital following a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle yesterday afternoon in Wading River.
The driver and passenger on a 2017 Harley-Davidson were both thrown from the bike in a collision with a 2007 Mitsubishi sedan at about 5:20 p.m. yesterday on Route 25A near Little Leaf Court.
The eastbound Mitsubishi, operated by 87-year-old Dorothy O’Brien of West Hempstead, turned into the path of the westbound motorcycle, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release.
Both people on the motorcycle sustained serious physical injury and were flown to Stony Brook by a Suffolk County Police helicopter. O’Brien was also injured in the crash and transported to Stony Brook by ambulance, according to police.
Police said the identities of the motorcycle occupants could not be confirmed.
Riverhead Police detectives are investigating the incident with the assistance of the New York State Police accident reconstruction unit. Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check.
The investigation is ongoing and police ask anyone with information to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
