McGann-Mercy fell to Mattituck girls in the Class B championship game today at Riverhead High School.

The game was back and forth throughout, with Mercy having the edge for the first three quarters, as Mattituck often found itself playing catch up. Mercy was firing on all cylinders, and jumped out to a lead, but as the game progressed, and foul trouble began to mount for Mercy, Mattituck found a way to put itself back in the contest.

With the start of the fourth quarter, and Mattituck up by a couple of points, Mercy tried desperately to find a way to get back into contention. Mercy’s Chastin Giles, drained a three-pointer to get Mercy within three, but Mattituck would have none of it as they were able to sink a few baskets and take an eight-point lead to the final clicks, to win their second consecutive Class B title, 52-44.

Mattituck moves on to face powerhouse Port Jeff Friday, Feb. 24, at Riverhead High School. There is a $6 admission charge.
