Riverhead won back to back games against Copiague today, with one shut out and one close call.

Riverhead hosted the double-header after rain canceled games earlier in the week. The Blue Waves finished the first game easily, Peter Panciocco pitching a shutout, 3-0.

The second game seemed like it would follow suit for the first four innings. Riverhead took an early lead, going into the fifth inning 4-0. A big fifth inning then put Copiague on the board and close on the tail of Riverhead, 4-3. Riverhead answered with one in the bottom of the fifth.

Copiague scored two more in the sixth to tie it 5-5 and held Riverhead back in the bottom half, but Riverhead returned the favor in the top of the seventh. Nick Dejewski, who took over in the sixth inning after Copiague tied it, provided scoreless relief for the last two innings of the game, sealing the deal for the Blue Waves.

Justin Clement started off the seventh with a double. Scott Thompson followed up with a single, bringing Clement home for a 6-5 victory for Riverhead and a series sweep over winless Copiague (0-15).

Riverhead, now 6-6 in League III and 6-8 overall, is on the road Tuesday to start a three-game series against Walt Whitman (3-8) at 4 p.m.
