IHOP, the iconic pancake house and family restaurant, will open a restaurant on Route 58 in Riverhead this spring, according to a company spokesperson.

The restaurant is scheduled to open its doors in March 2018 in the former Joe’s Crab Shack building, located in the shopping center at the intersection of Route 58 and Mill Road.

It will be the chain’s eastern-most location on Long Island, with its next closest restaurant located in Port Jefferson.

IHOP is a multinational chain restaurant that is most popular for its breakfast dishes, which are served all day long. Short for “International House of Pancakes,” IHOP’s menu features items that range from the sweet – pancakes, crepes, waffles and french toast that come with flavors like caramel, red velvet, cupcake and cheesecake – to the savory, like omelettes full of steak, bacon or even cheeseburger.

The restaurant also serves lunch and dinner alongside its breakfast dishes.

The restaurant will seat approximately 200 guests, according to an IHOP spokesperson, and will be open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight Friday and Saturday.

Between 70 and 100 local jobs will be created by the new restaurant, spokesperson Adam Korn said. Interested applicants can apply directly at the restaurant once construction is complete.

Its location at 1490 Old Country Road has been home to two other restaurant chains, including Joe’s Crab Shack, which closed in September 2016, and Boulder Creek.
