Riverhead Town’s newly elected and re-elected officials will take the oath of office in ceremonies at Pulaski Street School on New Year’s Day.

Laura Jens-Smith will be sworn in as the first female town supervisor in Riverhead’s 225-year history. Councilwoman Jodi Giglio and Councilwoman-elect Catherine Kent will take their oaths alongside Jens-Smith. Assessor Laverne Tennenberg and Highway Superintendent George Woodson will also be sworn in to their new terms of office during the Jan. 1 ceremonies, which will begin at 12 noon.

The inauguration is open to the public. The ceremonies will be followed by a reception.

The Riverhead ROTC, Riverhead Cub Scout Pack 4041, Girl Scout Troop 3651, the Butterfly Effect Project, the First Baptist Church Choir and soloist Alexandra Meli will participate in the ceremonies, according to a press release issued yesterday by Jens-Smith’s campaign organization.
