Think twice before downing that last spiked eggnog and getting behind the wheel.

Riverhead Police and Suffolk County’s DWI Task Force are stepping up enforcement to catch intoxicated drivers during a holiday weekend rife with Christmas celebrations, family parties and, for many, alcohol.

The police department is reminding residents to drive safely and comply with all vehicle and traffic laws while celebrating this weekend.

Riverhead has stepped up its enforcement this week and for the whole holiday season, police said. That means increased police patrol on the roads and checkpoints to ensure drivers are sober.

If your holiday celebrations include alcohol, make sure to assign a designated driver, call for a ride or make arrangements to stay at a location where you will not need to drive.
