Riverhead Town Police report that all roads but one section of Reeves Avenue have at least one lane of travel open as of midday.
County tow trucks arrived to help Riverhead police and highway department crews clear stranded vehicles from snow-drifted roads.
Reeves Avenue remains closed between Roanoke and Horton avenues.
Police warn that road conditions may change at any time due to lingering strong, gusty winds which will continue to blow snow from open fields onto adjacent roadways. Whiteout conditions may occur.
The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for Suffolk County that will remain in effect through eight o’clock tomorrow morning. Very cold wind chills are expected. High temperatures will reach only about 15 degrees today, dipping to around four degrees tonight. Northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph will make wind chill values as low as 12 below.
The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin, the weather service said.
Supervisor Laura Jens-Smith asked residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Road crews are still working to clear roads, she said. Keep parked cars off streets to make road-clearing more effective. If you must travel, the supervisor said, please slow down and use extra caution.

If you see anyone without shelter or who needs help, notify Riverhead police at 631-727-4500.
Make sure to check on your neighbors, especially the elderly and homebound.
Bring your pets indoors or make sure they have adequate shelter.

If you must travel, reduce your speed. Make sure you have your cell phone with you.
