The Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats came up short against Kings Park yesterday and were eliminated in the first round of the Class A girls basketball playoffs.

Kings Park (no. 2) dealt SWR (no. 7) a 77-62 defeat at Kings Park High School.

The Wildcats hit the court with the idea of trying to contain Kings Park guard Samantha Schultz — who averages 26 points a game — by double-teaming and closing down the lane when she drives inside, but it was tough. SWR squandered many points by missing key free throws that would have kept the game tighter for them. They were down 42-28 at the half. It was more of the same for SWR in the second half: trouble with free throws and trouble containing Schultz, who put 33 points on the board yesterday,  as well as Sam Hogan, who added 20.

Mikayla Dwyer had 26 points, Abby Korzekwinski had 12 points, and Michele Corona added 10 points for Shoreham Wading River.

Shoreham-Wading River finished the season 14-7 overall and 12-4 in League 6.
