The Riverhead Blue Waves’ playoff run ended in a second-half collapse last night at Riverhead High School.

The Waves came out flying in the first half, controlling the flow of play, making plays down low, and hitting baskets, while Brentwood struggled to keep up with Riverhead’s intensity.

Riverhead took a 30-26 lead into the locker room at the end of the first half. But the Waves came back a different team and managed to put only seven more points on the board in the games’ second half.

Brentwood capitalized on the errors, forcing Riverhead turnovers, and running up the score against Riverhead on their way to a 56-37 victory in the Suffolk AA quarterfinal.

Riverhead finished the season 15-7 overall, 9-4 in League 2.

Brentwood moves on to face second-seed Half Hollow Hills East in the semifinals Saturday at Suffolk County Community College in Selden
