Occupants escaped unharmed from a house fire at 828 Flanders Road early this afternoon.
Flanders Fire Department arrived on the scene shortly after 12 p.m. to find the occupants waiting outside, with smoke coming out of both eaves of the house. The firefighters entered through the front door and pushed the fire out the back, according to Flanders Fire Chief Scott Lambeck.
The fire was extinguished in about five minutes, Lambeck said.
The house sustained heavy damage to the kitchen and smoke and water damage throughout.
Riverhead Fire Department’s Rapid Intervention Team and Flanders Northampton Ambulance responded to the scene. Hampton Bays stood by at Flanders’ headquarters.
