A 28-year-old man sustained fatal injuries when he fell out of a limousine traveling on Sound Avenue near Warner Drive in Baiting Hollow this afternoon, Riverhead Town Police said.

Sound Avenue was closed to traffic in both directions between Osborn and Twomey Avenues. The road remained closed until approximately 6 p.m. as RIverhead Police detectives and a N.Y. State Police accident reconstruction team investigated.

The male passenger was moving inside the bus-type limo when it went around a curve and he fell over into a door, which opened, Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said. He fell to the pavement from the moving vehicle.

He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The accident took place at about 1:20 p.m.

Preliminary results of the investigation indicate the incident was accidental in nature, police said. The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and Motor Carrier Unit was notified and assisted with the investigation.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the police department at (631) 727-4500.
