A Riverhead man police said was driving a stolen vehicle while impaired by drugs was arrested following a crash late last night at the intersection of Doctors Path and Northville Turnpike.
Police said Willie Hopkins, 42, was driving a 2012 Ford Explorer when it collided with a 2016 Toyota Corolla at the intersection at about 11:15 p.m. Friday.
Hopkins and three occupants of the Toyota were injured in the crash, police said. Hopkins was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. The driver of the Toyota and two passengers were transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries police also described as non-life-threatening, police said.
Police said an investigation determined the Explorer had been reported stolen.
Hopkins was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Third Degree, a class D felony and Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, a misdemeanor, according to the police report.
Hopkins was treated and released from the hospital and was taken to Riverhead Police headquarters where he was held for morning arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, police said.
