(Update: Dec. 18) Southampton Town Police have identified the victim as Noe Hernandez-Nunez, 36, of Riverside.
One person is dead after a car veered off Flanders Road and crashed into a house early this morning, according to Southampton Town Police.
The accident occurred around 5:03 a.m. east of Longneck Road, when a Toyota sedan with two occupants traveling westbound on Flanders Road left the roadway and struck a two-story residence, police said.
The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said. Their identity is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
The driver was also transported to the hospital by Flanders-Northampton Ambulance he hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The three adults and one child who occupied the house were not injured, police said.
A neighbor, whose parked truck was hit in the crash, said the car “hit the edge of our [driveway] apron. It flew into [the truck]. Afterwards it hit the ground, jumped over the fence and headed into the neighbor’s house.” He said similar accidents have happened three times in the past few years.
Southampton Town Police and New York State Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Anyone with information can contact the Southampton department’s detective division at 631-702-2230.
