Riverhead school district voters approved budgets for both libraries in the district.

The Riverhead Free Library’s proposed $4.2 million operating budget passed by a vote of 176 to 91. The Baiting Hollow Library’s proposed $17,962 budget passed by a vote of 176 to 86.

Riverhead library trustee David Friedrich was elected to a second three-year term with 100 votes. Newcomers Carlos Alvarez who received 92 votes, and William Sandback, who received 85 votes, were elected to three-year terms commencing July 1.

Gina Chinese was elected to serve the balance of the unexpired three-year term of Amy Wood with 97 votes.

There were no other candidates for the trustee positions, which are volunteer posts and carry no compensation.

Voter approval of the library budgets authorized the school district to enter contracts with the library associations, and disburse tax dollars pursuant to the contracts, to fund the spending plans approved by voters.
