(Updated: 1 .p.m.) A man was killed in a house fire on Wildwood Trail in Northampton overnight.

Riverhead Fire Department was called to the scene at about 12:40 a.m. and found the house “fully involved” in flames, Chief Joe Hartmann said.

“Fire was blowing out the back of the house,” the chief said.

Riverhead volunteers responded with two engines and two ladder trucks and battled the fire for about two hours, he said.

The male resident of the home died in the fire, Hartmann said. There were no other occupants, he said.

The Southampton Town Fire Marshal’s Office was called to investigate, Hartmann said. The fire marshal in turn called the Suffolk County Police Department Arson Squad, he said.

The body of the the deceased man was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office for confirmation of identification, Southampton Town Police said.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the fire is non-criminal in nature, police said. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Southampton Town Detective Division @ 631-702-2230.

Flanders-Northampton Ambulance stood by at the scene. No injuries were reported.
