The Riverhead Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home on Bayside Avenue in Jamesport late last night.
Riverhead Police responding to a report of a structure fire at 55 Bayside Avenue, Jamesport at 11:18 p.m. found “a fully engulfed fire,” according to a police press release.
Both occupants of the home had safely exited the house and were later transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by via Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment of smoke inhalation, police said.
Jamesport, Riverhead, Flanders, Mattituck, and Cutchogue fire Departments responded to extinguish the fire.
The Riverhead Town Fire Marshal responded to the scene to investigate. The investigation is ongoing, and at this time is determined to be non criminal in nature, police said.
