Riverhead Town Police reported 235 criminal incidents and 61 arrests in July, according to data reported to the Town Board by Police Chief David Hegermiller.

Arrests made last month, according to the report, were for:
Assault (5)
Burglary (3)
Criminal possession of a controlled substance (3)
Criminal contempt (7)
Criminal mischief (1)
Driving while intoxicated (12)
Harassment (2)
Petit larceny (4)
Possession of weapon (1)
Rape (1)
Town code violation (5)
Trespass (1)
Warrant (15)

For reference, there were 227 criminal incidents in June, and 73 arrests were made. Criminal incidents were up from 194 reported in July 2021.

Criminal incidents last month included aggravated harassment (2), assault (6), attempted robbery (1), burglary (4), criminal contempt (4), counterfeiting (1), criminal mischief (23), petit larceny (62), harassment (23), identity theft (9), fraud (11), grand larceny (34), criminal trespass (1), stolen vehicle (5), fireworks (30) and endangering the welfare of a child (2).

Out of the 61 arrests, 42 people were held for arraignment on criminal charges in July.

There were three juveniles arrested in July.

The town issued 1,128 summonses (including 532 parking tickets).

There were 2,991 non-criminal incidents, which included three non-fatal overdoses and one fatal overdose. There were 128 town code violations issued and six town code investigations conducted.

There were 89 domestic incidents reported in July.
