West Main Street is closed between Marcy Avenue and Mill Road this morning due to an accident involving a garbage truck just east of the intersection with Mill Road.

The truck hit a utility pole, snapping it in two and pulling down power lines and other wires. The top half of the pole resting on the lines.

The driver of the truck, who was not injured, told police the one of the tires on the truck had a blowout, causing him to lose control.

The section of West Main Street will be closed to traffic until a PSEG-LI utility crew can repair the power lines and ensure the safety of passersby.
