An Orient man was arrested on a DWI charge after driving into the Long Island Sound off Pier Avenue last night, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police said they responded to a call about a vehicle driving into the water from Pier Avenue last night at about 10:38 p.m.
Patrol officers responding to the scene and found the driver out of the vehicle on land, police said.
Police said the driver, Jason Perry, 29, was operating the vehicle in an intoxicated condition. He was arrested for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and was held for arraignment, according to a police press release.
Riverhead Police dive team officers responded to the scene to assist with removing the vehicle from the water.
