Stony Brook Medicine has named a new chief administrative officer for its Southampton hospital.
Emily Mastaler, the former president and CEO of River Hospital in Alexandria Bay, N.Y., will take the position of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s chief administrative officer on May 20, according to a Stony Brook Medicine press release.
“We are fortunate to have Emily Mastaler’s extensive healthcare knowledge, clinical expertise and ability,“ Stony Brook University Hospital CEO Carol Gomes said in a statement. “She will play a vital role as we continue to grow and deliver on our commitment of providing access to Stony Brook Medicine’s medical experts, specialists and services throughout all our East End communities.”
At River Hospital, Mastaler “implemented a highly successful strategic plan, guided operational success during the global coronavirus pandemic and obtained philanthropic support for River Hospital’s first-ever endowment campaign,” Stony Brook Medicine said in a press release. Prior to her position at River, she held positions at the Health Care and Rehabilitation Services of Southeastern Vermont.
“I am truly honored for the incredible opportunity to join the Stony Brook Medicine and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital team,” Mastaler said in a statement. “I am strongly aligned with their unyielding commitment to the sustainability of exceptional healthcare within a diverse community. It is clear, Stony Brook Medicine has elevated the well-being of the East End communities, and I am thrilled to advance this mission in strong collaboration with our community partners, staff and patients.”
Mastaler holds a Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern University, a Masters of Arts in Psychology from Antioch University and a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology from Elmira College.
Fredric Weinbaum, who has served as interim CAO of the hospital since March 2023, will continue in his roles as chief medical officer and chief operating officer.
