A Huntington Station man was killed in a head-on collision yesterday on Main Road in Aquebogue, just east of Union Avenue.

The accident, which occurred at about 11:47 a.m., involved a 2018 BMW driven by Anthony Croce, 65, of Brooklyn and a 2002 Nissan operated by Matthew Schramm, 67, of Huntington Station, Riverhead Police said in a press release issued this morning. Both drivers, each the sole occupant of their vehicle, sustained significant injuries in the crash, police said.

Schramm was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital, according to the press release.

Croce was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of injuries police described as not life-threatening.

The Riverhead Police Department Detective Division and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit responded to the scene of the accident to assist in the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time, police said. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
