Update- 10 a.m.: Sound Avenue between Hulse Landing Road and Fresh Pond Avenue was reopened to traffic at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Original post:

Sound Avenue is closed between Hulse Landing Road and Fresh Pond Avenue this morning due to a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Sound Avenue just east of Hulse Landing Road at about 6 a.m.

The pedestrian, who was seriously injured, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead by Wading River Fire Department rescue.

Riverhead Police are at the scene and a New York State accident reconstruction team has been requested to assist Riverhead Police Department in its investigation.

Motorists should use alternate routes to avoid delays. Sound Avenue is likely to be closed for some time while the accident scene is being investigated.
