Riverhead Police arrested a Middle Island man yesterday in connection with a commercial burglary in Wading River in May.
Wayne Scott Conklin, 53, was charged in the May 27 burglary of Nik’s Nook Deli on Hulse Landing Road, following an investigation by Riverhead detectives, police said in a press release yesterday.
According to a May 30 Riverhead Police press release, an unknown person broke the front-door window of the deli to gain entry to the building. The suspect removed one of the cash registers along with approximately $100 in cash and left the area in an unknown direction, police said at the time.
The burglary in progress was reported by the deli owner at 11:35 p.m. on May 27, police said in their May press release.
Conklin was arrested Sept. 5, processed at the Riverhead Police Department, and held for arraignment in Riverhead Town Justice Court, police said. The report did not state the specific charges on which Conklin was arrested.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
