It was a busy day yesterday at Jamesport Fire Department headquarters on Manor Lane, where the community turned out for the department’s annual open house.

Visitors of all ages had a chance to learn about the work and services performed by firefighters, to chat with firefighters as well as representatives of law enforcement, including the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Riverhead Fire Marshal’s Office, and more.

There were free lessons in lifesaving hands-only CPR techniques and a demonstration by firefighters of methods used to extinguish a car fire.

The Jamesport Fire Department Auxiliary held a fundraising yard sale during the event.

Members of the department accepted donations of nonperishable foods for people affected by the historic flooding in North Carolina.
