A Mattituck man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital yesterday for injuries sustained in a crash on Main Road in Laurel, Riverhead Police said in a press release early this morning.
Police said Recep Zaim, 57, was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Main Road near Herricks Lane at about 5:55 p.m. Sunday when he collided with an eastbound 2003 Ford F-250 pickup truck operated by David Reister, 24, of Southold.
Zaim suffered “numerous injuries,” police said and was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital by a Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit.
Reister was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment of injuries police said were not life-threatening.
The Riverhead Police Department Detective Division and a New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit responded to the scene of the incident to assist in the investigation, according to the report.
No criminality is suspected in the case at this time, police said, however the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have further information pertaining to the investigation is encouraged to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631)727-4500.
