A Riverhead man was killed in a motor vehicle crash Monday afternoon on the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk County Police said in a press release last night.
Police said William Sarubbi, 37, was operating a 2014 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on the Long Island Expressway just east of exit 68 when he collided with the back of a 2024 Ford F250 pickup truck at 5:46 p.m.
Sarubbi was ejected from the motorcycle, police said.
A third vehicle, a 2022 Mitsubishi operated by John Fierro, 55, of Holtsville, swerved to avoid string Sarubbi in the roadway and hit the motorcycle, police said.
Sarubbi was transported by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where he was pronounced dead, according to the police report.
Neither the operator of the pickup truck, Derrick Perez, 22, of Coram, nor Fierro were injured, police said.
All three vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating the crash and ask anyone with information to contact Seventh Squad detectives at 631-852-8752.
