The windy start to the new year continues today, with a wind advisory in effect until 10 p.m.

Strong winds will continue throughout the day and into this evening, the National Weather Service said in the advisory, which remains in effect for southeastern New York, including Suffolk County.

West winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are in the forecast, the weather service said. Isolated gusts of 55 mph are possible, the weather service said.

Today will be partly sunny, with high temperatures in the mid-40s, according to the weather service forecast.

Strong winds will blow down scattered tree limbs, the weather service said in the advisory. A few trees and power lines could be downed, with power outages possible. Unsecured objects and decorations will be blown around and/or damaged, according to the advisory.

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles, according to the weather services, which urges extra caution on the roads.
