New York Blood Center has announced it will hold a blood drive on Friday, Feb. 7 at the Riverhead Cider House at 2711 Sound Avenue, Riverhead. The drive will take place from 12 noon to 6 p.m. All donors will receive a voucher for a free pint. New York Blood Center is especially in need of donations after a ransomware attack derailed its regular operations last week, canceling scheduled community blood drives, including two in Riverhead. The ransomware attack came just a week after New York Blood Center declared a blood emergency due to a holiday season that saw an unusual drop in blood donations.
The blood center announced yesterday that all of its computer systems were again operational and it was resuming normal blood collection activities.
