Riverhead Town Police have charged a Flanders man with assault in connection with a knifing that took place Tuesday afternoon on Osborn Avenue.

Police said they were called by a male victim who reported being cut by another man armed with a knife. The victim, who appeared to have a minor injury on his arm, provided responding officers with a description of the suspect, according to a police press release. Police canvassed the area and quickly located the suspect, the report said.

Police did not provide specifics about the location of the incident or the circumstances surrounding the injury.

After an investigation assisted by Riverhead detectives, police charged Eduar Montes Fuentes, 22, of Flanders with Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony, False Personation, a Class B Misdemeanor and Harassment in the Second Degree, a Violation. 

Montes Fuentes was transported to Riverhead Town Police headquarters where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said. 

The victim was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps for non-life threatening injuries and later transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for further medical treatment, police said.
