Police Officer Peter Anderson and Police Officer Brett Doscinski shared honors as the Riverhead Police Department Police Officer of the Year, presented by Riverhead Police Chief Ed Frost Friday night at the Southampton Kiwanis Club’s 54th Police Officer of the Year banquet.
The award was given to Anderson and Doscinski in recognition of their life saving efforts on Dec. 10, 2025, when they responded to a 911 call about a pickup truck that was stopped in the road on Old Country Road after operating erratically for a short distance, Frost said.
“P.O. Anderson arrived on scene, observed a gray pickup truck stopped in the westbound lane of Rt. 58 with two males knocking on the window, trying to wake up the operator, without success,” Frost said.
“Anderson also attempted to wake up the operator through the window, but observed that he was sitting motionless with blue lips as all doors in the vehicle were locked. Anderson broke the front passenger window with a glass break tool, unlocked the vehicle’s doors, and was able to open the driver’s door and put the car in park,” Frost said.
“Anderson was unable to get the unconscious male to respond to verbal or physical stimuli, and observed that he was not breathing and did not have a pulse. Anderson cut the seat belt off him and removed him from the vehicle. P.O. Doscinski arrived on scene and assisted Anderson in placing the victim on the ground to start CPR. Anderson also cut off the victim’s clothes while P.O. applied AED pads,” Frost said.
A woman who identified herself as a nurse arrived and began chest compressions, he said, while Anderson set up supplemental oxygen with a bag valve mask.
“The AED advised a shock and same was administered by P.O. Doscinski,” Frost said. “Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps arrived on scene and the subject was transported to PBMC,” Frost said.
“The responding officers checked on the victim’s status the next day and the hospital was very glad to report that he was able to sit up in bed and speak with his family,” Frost said.
“P.O. Anderson has been a police officer for six years and consistently demonstrates professionalism and dedication to the community he serves.
P.O. Doscinski has been a Riverhead police officer for two years, and has quickly proven himself to be an asset to the department,” the chief said.
“Their calm, clear judgment and ability to maintain their composure in this high-stress situation undoubtedly contributed to saving a life on Dec. 10,” Frost said.
The banquet took place Jan. 30 at the Sea Star Ballroom in Riverhead.
The Riverhead Police Department provided a color guard for the event. Music performance by Eastern Long Island Police Pipes and Drums.
