A single-car crash on Middle Road just west of Mill Road in Riverhead this morning sent a woman and a child to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident will have a portion of Middle Road closed this morning while the accident scene is cleared.

The vehicle struck a utility pole and overturned shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Riverhead Fire Department was asked to respond to the scene with a heavy rescue unit to assist in removing the occupants of the vehicle. Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the victims to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Police remain on scene investigating. Traffic is being diverted at Mill Road and at Deep Hole Road. PSEG has been notified to repair the cracked utility pole.
